What do you love about fairy tales?

For those of you who’ve read my books, you know I adore fairy tales.

Of course, much of the world adores fairy tales. These timeless stories have been passed down from generation to generation and filled them with delight. Disney has made billions of dollars from reimagining classic tales with large-eyed heroines and heroes.

But, what is it about these classics that make us love them so?

For me, it’s the happily ever after. I love a good story where, at the end, the main characters ride off into the sunset and have a happy life. It’s a fantasy–that life can be perfect after all the trials and tribulations. A fantasy that makes you feel good, that all the drama has been worth it.

I love that so often two people find in each other true love. While the fairy tales are sparse on details, they give you the sense of possibility. That there are people out there who are meant for you, people who you can find in the least expected places, and it can all work out. That hint of possibility–for Cinderella to be one out of a thousands of girls at a ball to capture the heart of a prince. To be sleeping beauty and happen upon your true love just before you are cursed to a hundred years of sleep. To be Rapunzel and find a guy who happens to let down your hair.

In re-imaginings, you get to flesh out the details, the whys of how these two fell in love, of what attracted them to each other. But even in the originals, they were wonderful in that they let you fill in the gaps and create your own understanding–one that was perfect for you–of what made that relationship tick.

That’s refreshing.

In honor of Retold Fairy Tales, Beauty & Her Beastly Love is 99 Cents

It’s all about those adaptations, retellings, or even reboots, depending on the lingo you prefer. Disney has released its retooled, live action version of its 1992 version of the classic tale Beauty and the Beast.

Fairy tales, which are all in the public domain as they were first published hundreds of years ago, are popular fodder for retelling. While Disney has given the moniker “tale as old as time” to Beauty and the Beast, any of the old fairy tales are deserving of the label.

In honor of the new movie and all things retold, this weekend, my adult retelling of the story, Beauty and Her Beastly Love, will be 99 cents. The price will go back up to $2.99 on Monday, so grab it now. Like all the passion-filled fairy tales, this is a grown-up version of the story, and not for kids.

Rapunzel Available Today!

My newest passion-filled fairy tale, Ravishing Rapunzel, is available today on Amazon. The book is available as an ebook and a paperback (though I sell mostly ebooks). If you’re in Kindle Unlimited, you can read the ebook free. If you want to buy it, the ebook is just 99 cents today and tomorrow. I’ll go in and raise the price to $2.99 Saturday night, but it likely won’t take effect until sometime Sunday. (Changes have sometimes been very quick, at 4 hours, and other times, have taken almost 24 hours, so I can’t give you a time when the price will change).

Almost at 40!

Happy Thursday to you. I hope your week is going well.

I don’t normally check each book page daily, and Amazon doesn’t send notifications when there are new reviews on a book so I don’t always see a new review immediately.

However, I popped in this morning and saw that the Princess, the Pea, and the Night of Passion was up to 39 reviews on Amazon. That’s just awesome! I love it when readers leave reviews, and the last ones were really positive.
